Light painting diciembre 30, 2009

Jan Wöllert and Jörg Miedza, from Bremen, Germany, are the creators of these amazing light paintings. Light painting, also known as light drawing or light graffiti is a photographic technique in which exposures are made usually at night or in a darkened room by moving a hand-held light source or by moving the camera (wikipedia).

We can recorder the first experiments with light realised by Picasso and Gjon Mili in 1949.

Chorus diciembre 30, 2009

Chorus’, UVA’s kinetic installation with sound by Mira Calix, recently featured in Artichoke’s‘Lumiere’in the world heritage site of Durham Cathedral. An array of motor-assisted pendulums weaves through space emitting light and sound. The rhythm of the work evolves through chaos and returns to unison, producing a hypnotic and seductive performance that heightens the viewer’s awareness of the space and their relationship with it. More than 75,000 people visited the festival, over the 4-day period.

Superstar diciembre 28, 2009

What Christmas is complete without a giant spinning illuminated star? This one is the largest in the world and just happens to be made up of LED lights, allowing it to use the same amount of energy as a common hairdryer! The revolving LED superstar was designed and built by Siemens and is currently mesmerizing viewers in Munich. Check out our amazing pics of this brightly lit installation with 9,000 LED lights spinning away into the night.

Regent Street lights diciembre 24, 2009

Christmas is coming, in case you hadn’t noticed. To alert us to this, over the last few weeks Christmas lights have been switched on all over London, filling the streets with gaudy displays. Except on Regent Street that is, which this year, thanks to a collaboration between Nokia and Wieden + Kennedy ad agency, has taken a surprisingly elegant approach.

PACMAN tree diciembre 23, 2009

El árbol está diseñado por Duyos, un estudio de diseño de moda, al que desde hace años el Ayuntamiento de Madrid encarga el diseño de algunas decoraciones navideñas. Este año han hecho el Pacman Tree (porque según pensaron la “Navidad es un comecocos”), y las luces de Navidad de la Calle Velázquez, con palabras, corazones, estrellas y smileys.

Transformaciones diciembre 18, 2009

Hace unas semanas tuve la oportunidad de platicar con Robert Brecevic en Casa Lamm de la Ciudad de México, donde presentó la pieza Transformaciónes, la cual se trata de un interesante ejercicio visual que me dejó sorprendido por su calidad y calides en relación a la percepción cultural que existe entorno a la cultura de las tantas comunidades indígenas establecidas al sur de nuestro país (México).

A few weeks ago I have the opportunity to talk with Robert Brecevic in Casa Lamm Mexico City where he presented Transformaciónes, which is an interesting visual exercise that I was surprised by its quality and warmth in relation to the cultural preception  that exist around the culture of many indigenous comunities established at the south or our country (Mexico).
