When a photorapher masterfully blends two of our prime passions, light graffiti and abandoned places, they will always have a place on TheCoolist. Photographer Andy Hemingway has released a photo series of light painting in an abandoned parking garage in Houston, TX. Ribbons of light flutter through empty, open spaces, weaving luminescent floating images that stand out against the stark, cold appearance of the abandoned garage. With a flashlight and some special tools, Hemingway can frame his shot on a tripod, set a long exposure and dance through the shot with his lights in hand. The result is what you see below, a great collection of light painting photography.

Some future designs won’t be as functional as they will be visually impacting, but such has always been true about the clothes we wear. Designer Wei-Chieh Shih built a laser suit with multiple rows of lasers stretching across the wearer’s back. The suit will only have full visibility in a smoky environment, so this one is built for the night clubs.

Consider the advances of the past century. The way science has improved our daily lives. The possibilities unleashed by technology. The things we can do today that earlier generations could not even imagine.
Yes, this is about better information, tools, algorithms—but that’s not all. It’s about the deeply human quest to make the world more livable, safer, more efficient, more sustainable.
Over the past century, the women and men of IBM have played a part in this unfolding story of progress. Today, we feel more confident than ever in people’s capacity to see the world with greater clarity… to map what we see… to understand its dynamics. All of which builds shared belief… in a better future, and in the way each of us can act to make it so.
On this, our 100th anniversary, we wanted to share some lessons we’ve learned. The THINK exhibit is an exploration into how the world works and how to make it work better.

TONALCO 450 is an art installation of hundreds of handmade paper birds flaoting in open space. This work was inspired by the Nahuatl word for the fall season: ‘tonalco’. The objective of TONALCO 450 is to transform the space trough the effects of the lights trapped inside the forms. The result is many forms that emulate the collective, systemic motion of a flock of birds.

Van Der Rohe (christian saucedo) is the name of the third piece finished at the chicago art department that uses transformed drawings to complete an image linked to the motion of the observer from a predeterminate spot.
