Libris.  Instalación cinética por Marina Corach

Liber interior corticis tunica est, libri vivum textum. // El libro es la capa interna de la corteza, los libros un tejido vivo.

La palabra “libro” tiene origen en la raíz latina liber; corteza de árbol, el libro provienede algo vivo, y aunque muere orgánicamente puede volver a la vida de otra manera, al ser leído.

Libris. surge a partir de las coyunturas que se instauran en torno a los cambios y posibilidades que afronta el libro al pasar del medio tradicional al formato digital. Esta transformación deriva en una gama de sentimientos encontrados, críticas, fetichismos, miedos y fascinaciones. Sin importar el medio que se utilice, lo qué da sentido al libro-objeto es el interés hacia la lectura y/o la escritura, si nadie lo lee, el libro no tiene vida.

Sin intentar ser una instalación lúdica invadida por efectos especiales, se produce una ambientación que resalta una mesa con libros en blanco excepto el libro central que tiene una frase impresa, el espectador interesado se acercará a ver que esta escrito, llevandolo a una distancia íntima con los libros y buscará sorprenderlo con el movimiento orgánico que los hace parecer vivos. Así como sucede con el caminar de un pequeño insecto, el visitante se detendrá durante un momento para contemplar y percibir ese sutil rasgo de vida con la simulación de pulmones de papel mediante el sube y baja de las hojas, acompañado con un crujir al unísono de éstas rozando en cada movimiento.

The word “book finds its origin at the latin root “liber” (bark). A book comes out of something that is alive, and even though it dies organically, it comes alive as soon as someone reads the words within.

Libris was born from the joints established among those changes and possibilities that a book is facing, coming from its traditional form to a digital format. This transformation causes a wide range of mixed feelings, fetichisms, criticisims, fears and fascinations. But, it is not the media what matters, it is the interest towards its lecture what makes an object-book. Thus if nobody reads the book, it is not alive.

Not trying to be a recreational installation – saturated with special effects- Libris produces a stunning atmosphere. Open books on a table, all of them showing white pages, except for the one at the very center with a tiny phrase printed on it. The audience, when interested, would try to get closer to that phrase in order to read what it’s written, taking the spectator to an intimate distance with the book. This reduction of the space between them and the book would cause them sheets to start moving at an organic manner, as if the book was alive. Just like it happens when an insect passes by, now the visitor would stop for a second to contemplate and sense that subtle vital signs, not only the movement but also an almost imperceptible sound of the sheets caressing each other.
