The Festival of Lights is one of the largest illumination festivals in the world. Every year for twelve days in October, Berlin’s world-famous landmarks and monuments are dressed in spectacular light. German and international artists and lighting designers present extraordinary illuminations, light art and creative designs. The festival is accompanied by numerous cultural events, all exploring the theme “Light”. The festival is an admission-free, top artistic event for an audience of millions. It generates massive media interest worldwide, and as a result, promises real sustainability.

The festival is organized by Zander & Partner Event-Marketing GmbH, with Director Birgit Zander as the driving force behind it. In cooperation with the “City Stiftung Berlin” and lighting designer Andreas Boehlke, she was already laying the foundation for this successful public event back in 2005.

Numerous celebrities, businesses, institutions and artists are committed to the continual development of the festival. It is only through the involvement of all these people that enables us to transform the entire city into a huge exhibition space with international appeal.

19 heures… la nuit commence à tomber, livrant la capitale à tous ses sortilèges. Revisités par des artistes contemporains venus du monde entier, squares, places, monuments, églises, parcs et jardins, piscines, théâtres et gymnases se transfigurent, créant l’émerveillement des promeneurs jusqu’à l’aube. Sélectionnés par les directeurs artistiques nommés chaque année, des artistes invités d’audience internationale sont appelés à créer spécifiquement ou à adapter des oeuvres en fonction des lieux où ils interviennent. À cette programmation phare s’ajoute une multitude d’autres manifestations artistiques intitulées « projets associés » et proposées par des lieux partenaires de l’événement. Sculptures, installations, projections, vidéos et performances offrent le temps d’une nuit l’occasion unique d’une rencontre entre le patrimoine, la création contemporaine et le public le plus large. FORWARD COUNCIL // “KNOT AFTER KNOT” – EL CROCHET COMO ARTE

Hace algunos días La plataforma Forward Council a través de su sección “Curated Items” inauguró la exposición virtual “KNOT AFTER KNOT” en la que se muestra una selección internacional de obras con la técnica del crochet o ganchillo como eje central.

Entre las piezas que se muestran en esta recopilación se pueden encontrar instalaciones, intervenciones, esculturas, tapices y recubrimientos de ganchillo que demuestras como nudo tras nudo, el conocimiento de las técnicas tradiciones se entrelaza con la vanguardia creativa internacional.

Forward Council, como difusora de la creación contemporánea utiliza el medio digital en esta exposición para mostrar globalmente como un solo material o proceso, no usado habitualmente en el arte, aplicado de diferentes formas puede llegar a transmitir los más diversos pensamientos y emociones.

Con esta exposición se demuestra como el artista, a través de su obra, puede crear un nexo de unión entre el conocimiento popular y la vanguardia del arte, estableciéndose así un diálogo entre el pasado y el futuro.

Entre los artistas que muestran sus obras aquí se encuentran Aldo Lanzini, Ana Laura Aláez, Jo Hamilton, Joana Vasconcelos, Mandy Greer, Nano 4814, Olek, Patricia Waller y Sarah Applebaum. También se exhibe el corto en clave de humor “Cuki Colorinchi Evolution” de Eduardo del Olmo Condado finalista de la Novena Edición de Jameson Notodofilmfest, y el proyecto científico-artístico “The Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef”.

a few days to finish FAST…

FAST was a prominent feature of the MIT150 events, a festival celebrating MIT’s unique confluence of Art, Science and Technology. Directed by Professor of Music and Media Tod Machover, FAST presented an exciting, surprising variety of work, embracing past to future, performance to debate, and installations to the unclassifiable. FAST appeared throughout the MIT campus and was extended over the entire spring semester, punctuated by five special Festival weekend events.

Publicación y cortometraje que compila 16 proyectos de gráfica generativa (y sonora) controlada por algoritmos y artefactos externos. Dichos artefactos han sido desarrollados al interior del Programa de Maestría y Doctorado de la Facultad de Arquitectura, UNAM.

notas: Para la presentación estará presente el artista Iván Abreu y el investigador emérito de nuestra universidad Dr. Alvaro Sánchez González. Posteriormente, diversos proyectos seleccionados participarán en un performance con gráfica algorítmica en tiempo real (con Processing) y síntesis de audio (con SuperCollider). Al finalizar, se llevará a cabo la premiere del cortometraje que será sonorizado en un live-act por Masterprogrammer (Hugo Escalante).

VIVID SYDNEY 2011

Get ready for another big, bright and musical winter in Sydney in 2011.

The Vivid Sydney festival has been running in the harbour city since 2009 and each year it gets better. This year will see 40 light installations – including the lighting of the Opera House sails – and music and theatre performances, as well as other ideas-based events.

This year’s program will see massive 3D light projections of the Opera House and buildings around Circular Quay and The Rocks. The Opera House is the focal point of the event, featuring a huge line-up of local and international musicians and performers as well as the amazing projections on the sails by French digital projection artists Superbien.

Stephen Pavlovic of Modular Records will curate Vivid 2011’s music program. The line-up includes names such as Bat for Lashes, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, The Avalanches, Cut Copy, Horse Meat Disco and The Crystal Ark.

Of course, there’ll be plenty of opportunity to meet up with friends too with activities going on throughout the event, including the official Sony Lounge – where radio station tripleJ will be broadcasting a daily show.

As Vivid Sydney Executive Producer Ignatius Jones explains: “We are working with our best and brightest talents in the creative industries, and inviting international creative minds to Sydney to show off what they can do, to swap ideas and most importantly reach out to the public and electrify us with their creations.”

Touted as the largest festival of light, music and ideas in the Southern Hemisphere, we love the fact that there’s such a push to engage Sydneysiders in winter activities. With such comfortable winter temperatures, it’s surely one of the best cities in the world to enjoy.

The festival will run from 27 May – 13 June 2011

“Synaptic Passage” es una instalación inmersiva de grandes dimensiones de Daniel Canogar creada especialmente para la exposición “Brain: The Inside Story” en el Museo de Historia Natural de la Ciudad de Nueva York, expuesta hasta el 14 de agosto del 2011. Las parpadeantes video-animaciones proyectadas sobre 500 kilos de cable reciclado sugieren la comunicación constante que ocurre en el denso y enrevesado tejido formado por más de 100.000 millones de neuronas.

“Synaptic Passage” by Daniel Canogar is a monumentally-sized immersive installation created specially for “Brain: The Inside Story” at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, on view at the Museum until August 14, 2011. The shifting patterns of light projected onto over 500 kilos of repurposed cables evoke the nonstop communication that occurs among the brain’s dense, tangled forest of 100 billion, interconnected neurons.

YO MÉXICO se presenta como el espectáculo multimedia que bañará en luz, tres de los edificios emblemáticos (la Catedral Metropolitana, El Palacio Nacional y el Palacio de Gobierno del Distrito Federal) que rodean al Zócalo de la Ciudad de México, con imágenes alusivas a la Revolución Méxicana.

El discurso visual compuesto por proyecciones de imágenes en video que cubrirán 270 grados en 12 mil metros de pantalla, ofrecerá un recorrido a través de la historia de México y su riqueza cultural compuesta por la esencia y momentos que forjaron a esta nación.

El espectáculo se encuentra dividido en V actos:

‘decode: digital design sensations‘ CAFA art museum, shanghai, china… now until 21 november 2010

Curated by the V&A in collaboration with the leading digital arts organization, onedotzero, ’decode: digital design sensations’ is an exhibition showcasing the best contemporary digital art and design from around the world. initially launched last december in london, the collection has started on an international tour with its first stop at the CAFA art museum in shanghai, china.

The exhibition is composed of three themes: ‘interactivity’ looks at designs that invite the viewers to contribute to the development of the works. one such project is ‘dandelion’ sennep and yoke, which allows users to digitally ‘blow away’ the seeds of a dandelion by use of a hair dryer. Another project by london-based artist mehmet akten is ‘body paint’. the visual instrument invites users to paint on a virtual canvas with their body, reading movements, gestures and dance to create compositions.

‘code as material’ features projects that utilize computer code to create constantly fluid and ever changing designs. digital artist daniel brown has on display a piece from his ‘on growth and form series’, a growing imaginary plant that produces new buds, blossoms and stalks from advanced mathematics and code. The ‘plant’ will continue to generate and grow over the course of the exhibition.

‘the network’, the last theme, explores the notion of collecting data generated by new types of social interacting and media to create works and forms. American digital artist aaron koblin visualizes real-time flight patterns into an abstracted portrait of a time and country.
